Third year law student, Ben Aguilar, has been appointed to a 2-year position on the National Advisory Committee of Equal Justice Works, a prominent public interest law organization based in Washington, D.C. Ben is one of seven law students selected from across the country who will work together to mobilize the next generation of public interest attorneys committed to serving underrepresented individuals, communities and causes.

“Equal Justice Works is a nationally recognized organization with a 20-year track record of providing a continuum of programs to law students interested in social justice and the largest post-graduate fellowship program in the country,” said Dovie King, Associate Director of Career Services at TJSL and former Equal Justice Works Fellow.

“Ben’s position on the National Advisory Committee is a great honor and privilege that is evidence of his genuine commitment to public interest law and leadership in the community.” Ben is currently the President of the International Law Society at Thomas Jefferson and he has interned with the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties since last spring. On October 23, 2010, Ben attended the meeting of the National Advisory Committee in Bethesda, Maryland, which was held in conjunction with the Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair attended by thousands of law students each year."

"The National Advisory Committee provides a vehicle through which students and professionals at Equal Justice Works member law schools can guide and advance the organization's goals,” Ben said about his recent trip to the East Coast. “ At the meeting we had the opportunity discuss student concerns about public interest law practice and ways in which employer and law student participation can be increased at next year’s career fair.”

Thomas Jefferson School of Law is a member law school of Equal Justice Works and current law students and alumni are eligible to tap into a variety of resources, including summer grants, post-graduate fellowships and the annual career fair.
