The Brazilian Educational System SA (SEB) and the LL.M. Program of Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL) have signed an agreement to start Study Abroad and LL.M. programs in both Brazil and the United States. The programs will focus on educational and professional training in the legal field.

A distinctive aspect of this agreement is that it gives the students many of options about the extent of their involvement in Brazil and/or the United States. An American or Brazilian student will be able to choose to study a month abroad or devote one year abroad in pursuit of a double degree. The year abroad can also be split up inbetween six months of study online and the six months of residential study. The benefit of this style of study, called “sandwich graduation,” is that both Brazilian and American students, regardless of whether they want to do a double degree or not, can still apply their credits earned toward their J.D. at either institution. Internships in both countries will also be made available to interested students.

The faculty of both countries will also be involved in the programs and encouraged to contribute with their own scholarly publications. Researchers from TJSL may cooperate with researchers in Brazil in order to strengthen the comparative studies between the two systems.
