The San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association Scholarship Awards Dinner brought together members of the Latino legal community for an evening of recognition on Friday, October 21, at The Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego.

“I am very grateful to have been selected as one of this year’s La Raza Scholarship recipients, along with fellow TJSL winners, Susana Beltran 3L, Teresa Gutierrez 1L and Samantha Morales 1L” said award recipient Kim Vega-Carter 3L. “Being a person of biracial background, diversity in the legal profession is extremely important to me.”

The four TJSL students received several thousand dollars in scholarships that will go towards their legal education.

"I am very appreciative of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association for selecting me as a scholarship recipient this year,” said Teresa Gutierrez.

“It means a great deal to me that the Association recognizes, supports, and encourages the hard work of law students who have overcome adversity and achieved academic success while giving back to their communities. My fellow scholarship recipients are amazing, and I feel inspired by their stories."

The new La Raza Board was also sworn in and includes three TJSL Alums Francisco Aldana ‘01, Renee Galente ‘08 and Lorena Slomanson ‘03.

Formed in 1979, the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association represents more than 300 Latino lawyers in San Diego County and strives to advance the cause of equality, empowerment and justice through service and advocacy.
