Professor Marjorie Cohn participated in a panel discussion at the International Human Rights Film Festival in Vienna on December 5, before the world premiere of War on Terror.
The film “War on Terror” was made by an Austrian filmmaker, Sebastian J. F. See. It's in English and is very powerful, according to Professor Cohn. On the panel following the film, she was joined by Manfred Nowak, who is the former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, and the head of Amnesty International in Austria. According to Professor Cohn, there were hundreds of people in the audience, and many asked excellent questions. Professor Cohn also met the Iraqi ambassador to Austria Tariq Aqrawi and they discussed the U.S. withdrawal of troops from Iraq by the end of the year because the Iraqis would not grant them immunity for criminal and civil offenses. He told Professor Cohn that if they granted immunity to Americans, they would have to do it for other countries.
