The San Diego Press Club recently honored Dean Rudy Hasl with an "Excellence in Journalism" award.  The Press Club’s "Strength in Numbers" 39th Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony was held at Balboa Park's San Diego Hall of Champions in late October.

Dean Hasl was recognized for his contributions to the monthly "Deans" column in San Diego Lawyer magazine, the official publication of the San Diego County Bar Association. He and the deans from San Diego’s two other ABA accredited law schools all tied for third place in the magazine column award category.  Some 250 individuals from 135 categories were recognized at the awards ceremony.

“I am very honored to be recognized for my article in San Diego’s Bar Association journal,” said Dean Hasl. “I value the important connection between the law school and the organized bar. It is so important that we work together to produce the best candidates for admission to the practice of law.”

Dean Hasl wrote two columns for San Diego Lawyer this year. The first article discusses the value of a legal education while the second one discusses TJSL’s focus on skills training.

The San Diego Press Club has served San Diego’s journalism profession since 1973 and is one of the largest clubs of its kind in the nation with nearly 400 members in the news and communications field. Each year, the Press Club Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in journalism.

This year, the awards ceremony helped raise almost $6,000 for the scholarship program.
