The student organization room on the 5th floor was buzzing with excitement on Thursday, January 24, as students gathered at the Spring semester Student Organization Fair. Over two dozen student organizations showcased to new members how they each enrich student life at TJSL.

The Women's Law Association and the Native American Law Students Association are two re-emerging student organizations that participated in this semester.

And as you can imagine, students were happy to see that candy and snacks were everywhere!

“It was beneficial to have a few hours to hang out with the other organization's leaders and to meet some of the future leaders of TJSL," said Public Interest Law Foundation President Kelly Hayes 3L, who was very excited that PILF was able to recruit 15 new members.

Black Law Students Association Vice President Jay B. Campbell 2L praises the fellowship within his organization. “BLSA provides a great opportunity to meet fellow students. We provide great networking and a strong support system.” President Antionette Scott 3L spoke proudly about the beautiful glass trophy on BLSA's desk. “We won it after our mock trial team advanced to the National BLSA competition in D.C. after winning the regional competition against UCLA, USD, and UNLV!”

La Raza Law Students Association and the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association also provide their members with support programs. “La Raza's mentorship program provides its members with peer support for transitioning into law school and methods in succeeding in law school,” said Jose Rodriguez 1L. Pamela Rivera 1L described La Raza's Multiple Choice Clinic and Finals Simulation Clinic as “Unparalleled!”

APALSA Secretary Jackie Nicolas 2L explained, “We're big on community service and network with local attorney associations like the Korean American Bar Association of San Diego, Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego, and the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego, who host mock interviews for our members.”

Phi Alpha Delta's Vice Justice Khouloud Elmasri explained how her fraternity helps its members establish themselves in the legal field. “PAD is an endless resource. It's a network that is local, national and international. We support career growth, a commitment to community service and opportunities to connect to a variety of individuals. Our membership also includes some famous faces, including the Clintons!”

Family Law Society's Amy Buchanan 3L shared, “We strive to broaden people's perspective of family law because it is often a misunderstood area of the law. There's always a need for it and even if your're not sue what to do, it's good to learn about it because it's not just about divorces and custody. It also involves child welfare, elders, estate planning and even bankruptcy law.”
