On March 19th, students attended the Business Etiquette Panel hosted by the Black Law Student Association (BLSA). The panel was moderated by BLSA treasurer Tomi Adeleke, while Professor Udoka Nwanna and Attorney Dante Pride served as panelists. Professor Nwanna focused specifically on the female perspective regarding appropriate attire for women within the legal profession, while Mr. Pride provided a men’s perspective for the male students in attendance.
The primary purpose of the event was to help prepare students for the professional world beyond the classroom. One of the main topics of discussion was how to dress appropriately in the legal profession. The panelists spoke about the importance of well-tailored suits for men, and properly cut suits for women. Among other things, students received valuable tips on how to prepare for interviews, and how to make a good first impression during an interview. In addition, students received advice on interacting with potential employers at networking events, and received a few pointers on seeking employment following graduation. One of the most important pieces of advice taken from the discussion was the importance of networking throughout law school. Professor Nwanna explained that the best time to network is while students are still in school, as she encouraged students to aim at attending at least one networking event every month.
The event concluded with various student questions for the panel. Students appeared to gain a lot of helpful and valuable information from Professor Nwanna and Mr. Pride. Overall, the event proved to be highly informative for those in attendance.
