Debbie Micev (3L) will be interning this summer with Federal Magistrate Judge William McCurine, who is also one of TJSL’s Trustees.

Micev will be assisting with all pre-trial matters in Judge McCurine’s court and writing a Writ of Habeus Corpus.

This internship is particularly meaningful to Micev for personal reasons.

“I feel extremely excited and grateful because I have been through such a tumultuous journey in law school,” said Micev. “I began at another law school and I was dismissed after not making the cut-off.  I had a lot of personal problems and I had just lived with my mom for two years as she recovered from breast cancer.  I wasn't in a position to handle law school and things went downhill fast. I waited over a year before asking Thomas Jefferson for a second chance and now getting to work for a Judge McCurine is such an honor, I still can’t believe it.  Looking back, I know I was supposed to fail because it's the reason I'm here now.”

During her time at TJSL, Micev has been a fighter in more ways than one.

Micev also competes in Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. At the end of May, she will compete in Long Beach at the IBJJF World Championships in the Light Featherweight Division.  Through fighting she has learned most importantly, “When you fall, get up right away and keep fighting!”

Congratulations from the TJSL Family!
