Thomas Jefferson School of Law would like to welcome two new staff members to the Career Services office. The new Director of Career Services is Jeff Chinn, who most recently was the Associate Director of the California Innocence Project (CIP) in San Diego. He is a graduate of American University Washington College of Law and later served as the school’s Assistant Director/Public Interest Coordinator in the Office of Career Services. At CIP, Chinn worked with law students to investigate claims of wrongful conviction and assisted exonerated clients after their release. He also coordinated the CIP’s pro bono program and developed relationships with major law firms in San Diego and Los Angeles. “The TJSL staff, students, and alumni have been great to work with so far. At the California Innocence Project, I regularly hired TJSL students as interns and was always impressed with the quality of their work.”

Chinn wants to develop programs teaching students the basics of job search strategies including resume and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, and networking skills. He will also work with the TJSL Alumni Board and Alumni relations to make significant outreach to the school’s graduates, including an expansion of an alumni mentor network. Chinn adds that, “from giving advice on job search strategies to building lasting connections with the legal community, the Career Services office is committed to bridging each student or alumni’s legal education and experience into a fulfilling and exciting career in the law.”

New Associate Director Paula Gluzman joins Thomas Jefferson School of Law with experience in both law school student affairs and legal practice. After graduation from McGeorge School of Law, Gluzman practiced civil defense litigation before joining the Student Legal Services team at UC San Diego. There, she advised students on relevant legal matters and created educational programs about the legal profession. She later entered the world of Law School Admissions at the University of Washington School of Law and, most recently, at UCLA School of Law. Through these experiences, Ms. Gluzman facilitated and guided students through the important factors of the law school experience, including career and employment.

Gluzman says that “I am thrilled to join TJSL as the new Associate Director of Career Services! With a service-based counseling approach and emphasis on self-assessment, professional development, and researched goal setting, I look forward to working closely with our students to obtain exciting careers in the law. I am also committed to building relationships with the San Diego legal community to further expand TJSL's network of professional opportunities for our students and alumni. I want to work together with TJSL students and with employers looking for strong legal talent.”

Rounding out the Career Services office is Recruiting Coordinator Lisa Field who joined TJSL in January 2012. Ms. Field works with employers to post job opportunities and keeps students informed of the latest developments. Chinn says that “Lisa plays an important role in developing strong relationships with employers to make sure that our students have the opportunity to apply to a wide variety of private and public sector opportunities.”
